Join Culinary Director and Partner of The King Street Food Company’s collection of restaurants, Chef Rob Gentile along with yoga teachers and wellness enthusiasts, Audrey Gentile & Vitina Blumenthal for a weekend of nourishment.
You work hard. You take care of the special people in your life. It’s time for you to make time to take care of you and indulge in a weekend of nourishment.
It’s time to slow down and learn how to refuel the body from the inside out. A time to detach yourself from the stresses back home, unplug from your daily devices and reconnect with the you that appreciates and delights in this simple scenic countryside and it’s humble way of life.
There is a misconception around the philosophy of slow living that to practice this way of life means to literally slow down. Though that might be the case in certain areas, the word 'slow' could be interchangeable with that of 'deliberate', 'intentional', or 'conscious'. It is less about the pace at which you perform your everyday activities, and more about the presence and purpose you bring forth in doing so. We all have things in our life we feel we need to do, and often do not feel we have the luxury to do them in a way we also enjoy. However, by simply altering the attitude and reasoning behind these responsibilities, we begin to take pleasure in these otherwise "mundane" tasks and live from a place of active joy rather than that of obligation or duty.
Simply put, slow living is about creating space. Within this space you can breathe deeply, become present, savour and explore each of your senses fully and take notice of all that this world is willing to provide you with. Committing yourself completely to each and every moment, finding the beauty and humour and resisting the urge to cut corners and distract from these moments.
By taking the time to appreciate and delight in these small pleasures, the magic of the Universe will open up to you in a way that makes living your life feel like a work of art. We hope to reignite your passion, deepen your appreciation, and recharge your body, mind, and soul by utilizing your senses and making presence a priority. Welcome to the inaugural Refuel retreat. It is an honour and joy to share and take part in this journey with you.
A first generation Canadian, born to Italian parents, Chef Rob Gentile’s earliest memories are from his grandmother’s garden and kitchen. Combining those skills learned at home and a passion for food, Rob took his first restaurant job at the age of 13. He inherently knew his career would revolve around food and after working in restaurants throughout his teenage years entered George Brown’s Culinary School. By 18 he found his first role in a professional kitchen at North 44, under celebrated Chef Mark McEwan. After just 10 years, he advanced from line cook to Chef de Cuisine at McEwan’s top restaurants and joined Peter Tsebelis and Gus Giazitzidis at The King Street Food Company to take the helm at Buca. Opened in 2009, Buca quickly became one of “Canada’s Best" and a highly sought-after dining destination.
Rob Gentile, now Culinary Director and Partner of The King Street Food Company’s collection of restaurants, has earned critical acclaim for his disciplined craft, determination to source unique, local ingredients and visionary approach to Italian cuisine. Since Buca’s opening, diners and critics alike have taken note of his culinary direction and creativity, resulting in Canada’s 100 Best naming Buca Osteria & Bar (Yorkville) second in the country (2016), honours from the Ontario Hostelry Institute’s Gold Award for Independent Restaurateur (2015) and a prestigious Pinnacle Award from Foodservice and Hospitality naming The King Street Food Company 2014’s Company of the Year in Eastern Canada.
Audrey Gentile is a yoga teacher, culinary arts graduate, avid entrepreneur, wife and mom. Hailing from northern Quebec, her yoga journey began in 2002. As she deepened her discipline for the practice, learning and travelling with Lyne St-Roch, pioneer of francophone yoga, she discovered its broader spectrum and the self-exploration gifts it offers. Skillfully arranging asanas to ease the journey from the physical to the subtle body, her emphasis is on what the practice feels like and what it evokes. Today, calling Toronto home, Audrey can be found teaching in local studios, in private at-home classes, in satellite workshops and as part of her immersive retreat experience, L’Anima, in Italy. Audrey’s love for yoga is matched by her passion for slow and ethical food. Her attention being on the quality of both these sacred practices, the essence is ultimately feeding the body and soul in a true holistic sense and as a way to celebrate life.
Vitina Blumenthal, founder of WanderfulSoul & Co-founder of Wanderwell, is a certified Yoga Instructor who after a successful career in the music industry began a journey of discovery in an Ashram in India. She has since dedicated the last six years travelling throughout India, South East Asia and Central America teaching and leading wellness retreats and is known for helping others incorporate Eastern mindfulness traditions and healing practices into our modern Western lifestyle. She has learned from renowned thought leaders in the wellness space and more formally studied Mindfulness at the University of Toronto. It's her lifework to infuse practical mindfulness tools into everyday life to guide people to live aligned to their purpose. Her passion remains firmly focused on the intersection between wellness and creating unforgettable, transformational experiences.
