Yoga Detox Flow – Power Through (Part 3/4)

While I was prepping to film this sequence, there were tons of firetrucks just outside my apartment. The sirens filled the space around me. While trying to focus and film, I realized that the commotion going on outside was the perfect representation of chaos. There can be chaos all around us. Literally outside our front door or, something most of us are guilty of, the chaos that goes on in our minds. The only thing we have control over is our reaction to the chaos.

Compare this situation with the firetrucks with the thoughts in your mind. It’s like when that kid in your building pulls the fire alarm. One fire truck comes, then another, and another. Oh, and now a cop car and ambulance. Like most of the time in the city, the whole emergency squad arrives to a fire that was never really started.

Your mind works similarly. One thought comes up, and that one thought sparks another, going deeper and creating a complete narrative in your mind. Mark Twain once said, “I am a man of many troubles, most of which never happened.”

During this sequence, pay attention to the thoughts that cross your mind. Catch yourself when you start having negative thoughts about your practice or a specific pose that might be a little uncomfortable. Don’t block them but confront them and let them flow through. See if you can take this mindful practice off the mat.

Use this flow to detox through the chaos. Your mind is a powerful tool, especially once you start to master it!
